David Topus

Sales Communications Expert


David is a nationally-recognized sales consultant and trainer.

He began his career at Ted Bates Advertising in New York City, where he developed media strategies for two of the agency’s flagship clients, Colgate-Palmolive and Nabisco Brands.

He subsequently joined the advertising staff of The Wall Street Journal, where he held positions in New York City, Washington, DC and finally Pittsburgh, where he was territory manager.

After five years of growth in his assignments, David was recruited by the Washington Post to help bolster corporate/national accounts.

He was subsequently recruited by IDG Communications to launch Federal Computer Week. Under David’s leadership the magazine was the fastest growing trade publication in the U.S., and among IDG’s most successful start-ups.

In 1990 David started Topus Sales Communication. Since then he has worked with dozens of major companies in designing and implementing sales and marketing communication strategies. He worked closely with Rockwell Automation in refining their positioning and messaging. At Siemens USA he was instrumental in the design and delivery of a cross-selling initiative. He mapped the sales process for Delta Air Lines Air Logistics unit, and built a competency program to drive it. Other clients over the years include NCR, Ikon Office Solutions, GE, Ecolab, Gannett Broadcasting, and others.

In 1997 he produced Victory!, an interactive multimedia sales training curriculum. The program has been deployed by dozens of Fortune 1K companies. In 2005 David sold the rights to Victory! and kept a reseller license.

For most of 2006 he served as interim chief marketing officer for a leading medical transcription company where he designed and implemented sales, marketing and customer retention processes and strategies.

In early 2007 David re-established Topus Sales Communication as Rev-Up Consulting, to provide consulting, training analysis and advisory services in sales, marketing and business communication, process, and leadership. Presently Rev-Up is serving a variety of national and international clients.

He holds an undergraduate degree in marketing, a master certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and has been trained in Six Sigma.
